Shortly before the 28th World AIDS Day, a medical team led by Wei Min, professor from School of Medicine, Nankai University, discovered a new protein—Coiled Coil Domain Containing Protein 8 (CCDC8)—encoded by “host” cell of human body. This protein is highly effective in resisting HIV-1 and has become a new target in developing anti-AIDS drugs. When reaching a certain level, it can decrease the viruses even by as much as 50 times. This achievement was published in a paper in Scientific Report, a journal of Nature Publishing Group.
